Vol. 6 BackerKit Surveys in Review
Currently, we are waiting on final approval from BackerKit to make surveys live. We have made edits to surveys per their suggestion and they are checking over everything one more time. We are hoping to have the smoke test launched soon. Once we have approval, we’ll post another update with next steps.
Again, thank you all so much for helping create another beautiful Hack/Slash hardcover! And, thank you to everyone who has donated to Sam directly or will be participating in the auction.

A WhatNot Sale for Sam - Co-hosted by Tim Seeley on January 8th @ 7PM CST
HACK/SLASH is teaming up with SLABULOUS COMICS for a Charity WhatNot Auction in support of Sam Eggelston, number one Hack/Slash fan, who is in need of help with medical bills! The link for the Charity WhatNot Auction will be posted here on January 8th and through Tim's social media accounts.
Alongside Panel Punk Comics Originals, and Slabulous Comics, we're selling off Sam's EPIC HACK/SLASH collection, along with a few rare, surprise pieces donated by Tim Seeley!
But, we'll get out of the way, and let Sam explain!
"My name is Sam Eggleston. I’ve been dealing with back-to-back-to-back medical issues since February, including a recurring infection in my leg, heart failure and a rare form of aggressive kidney cancer. University of Michigan doctors are planning surgery for February to remove part of the kidney, but because the tumor is close to an artery, and because I have to pass several cardiac tests first, there’s still uncertainty. If my heart can’t handle anesthesia yet, we’ll have to pivot to radiation. If there are complications in surgery, then the entire kidney will have to go.
There is likely a genetic mutation in my cells, which I am being referred to U of M's genetic team for, that indicates more cancer will be back no matter what, so the doctors would like genetic testing done to formulate a treatment plan.
I’ve been unable to work under doctor’s orders and have sold my home and retirement to keep up with the medical bills. I have no insurance, have been denied Medicaid twice, and my three ER visits and hospital stay alone last year totaled nearly $30,000 and that doesn’t include any visits of U of M or my primary care doctor.
Additionally, I have my normal bills to pay, like my phone, car insurance and credit card, which are feeling like their own mountain these days.
If that weren’t enough, I hit a deer on December 8 and it looks like my car will be totaled... just one more setback in a long stretch of them. I’m at least fortunate to have a room at my daughter’s place about 90 minutes from my doctors while I try to get through all of this.
I haven’t had any luck getting interviews for remote editing work just to make ends meet, so I’ve made the difficult decision to sell my entire Hack/Slash collection, among other things. Tim and Paola Seeley have been incredibly generous in offering to help me sell my artwork collection, and I’m very grateful.
I truly hate asking for help, but at this point I’m just trying to keep fighting and stay afloat. Any support... even just sharing this... means a lot. Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to read this. And thanks for being Hack/Slash fans, my favorite comic series of all time, and folks like you keep it going strong."

Slashers,
Thank you all so much for all your support on Kickstarter for Hack/Slash Vol. 6! It really helped warm up all of our cold-bloody hearts in the Chicago snow at Hack/Slash, Inc. We are so excited that Vol. 6 will be reprinted in this gorgeous deluxe hardcover.
And, now a special video from Tim Seeley!
As the campaign wraps up on Kickstarter, we are aiming to have BackerKit surveys ready to go before the start of 2026. For those of you who have not used BackerKit before, BackerKit is a pledge management platform that makes collecting backer information like shipping details, shirt sizes, and whatnot, super easy for creators. It makes completing surveys even easier for backers because it feels like you’re just shopping online!
While BackerKit surveys are in the works, here is a vision map of what’s next:
12/11 - Kickstarter Charges Backer Cards Kickstarter has charged cards for all backers pledging for this campaign. In the case that there is an issue with your form of payment, you will be able to update your payment without any issue by 12/24. If you need any extra assistance, please shoot us a DM and we will assist you the best we can.
12/26 (Tentative) - BackerKit Smoke Test We will be initiating the BackerKit Smoke Test. The Smoke Test randomly selects 5% of backers to fill out their surveys before we open up surveys to everyone. This test helps us find any issues with pledge questions that we may have missed. If you’re one of the backers chosen for this, we thank you in advance for all your help!
12/30 (Tentative) - BackerKit Open for All Backers As long as the BackerKit Smoke Test and adjustments go smoothly, we will open BackerKit surveys to all backers and open the BackerKit Pre-Order Page to anyone that missed the Kickstarter. Note: If you did not pledge when the Kickstarter was live, you will not be able to pledge for the Kickstarter Exclusive Edition of Hack/Slash Vol. 6 Deluxe Omnibus Hardcover.
Book Production Update - Files at the Printer!
Hack/Slash Vol. 6 Deluxe Omnibus Hardcover files are at the printer as we speak. Hack/Slash, Inc. and Image are currently going through printer proofs and once we go over the files with a fine toothed comb, this baby will be off to press!
Again, thank you all so much for making another Hack/Slash Deluxe Omnibus Hardcover possible. We cannot thank you all enough and we are so thrilled to add another big, beautiful book to your Hack/Slash collection!
